Keith Powney

Church Secretary

Keith was born and bred in Derby and baptised aged 15. He was elected to the leadership team at his local church; and a deacon & also as an elder. Later became the church secretary and has been in the same role for more than 50 years. Met his future wife, Joan, at the age of nine and they were eventually married for 56 years and have two grown up sons and two grandchildren.

Keith was a founder of Derby Bible Week (Keswick in Derby) which has become a major event in Derby’s Christian calendar.

Both Keith and Joan independently heard the call of the Lord in 1986 to open a Christian Care Home in Belper, Derbyshire (Osmaston Grange). Although now retired they, moved to Duffield in 1998 and Keith was duly appointed as secretary at the Baptist Church. Together they led a Housegroup leaders; Joan was one of the keyboard players and both were heavily involved in CHAT, which is an afternoon meeting for the elderly and lonely. Joan went to be with the Lord in June, 2021.
